"My students inspire me to learn and grow, and become the best person I can be."
I MOVED TO LAKE HAVASU BECAUSE
I came here on vacation once, and dreamed ever since of getting away from the cold and wet of the northeast.
This will be my third year of full-time teaching.
PERSONAL INTERESTS AND/OR COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
I have a long standing interesting in early American military and folk music, and I perform it in period costumes. In addition to my volunteer work with people with disabilities, I have also been involved in volunteer work with people with mental illness and chemical dependency issues. I was on the board of directors of Foundations, a consumer-run agency that assists people with mental health issues, and I served on the Reentry Coalition, assisting people leaving incarceration in finding help for those issues as well as employment, housing, public assistance, etc.
I WAS INSPIRED TO BE A TEACHER BECAUSE
I have done volunteer work with people with disabilities for 40 years. No job and no hobby ever provided me with the rich rewards that this work did. About five years ago, I decided to make a major life change and make special education my second career.
dream classroom item: Chromebooks
The chromebooks would enable me to give students access to programs and on-line applications that would enrich their learning and give them unlimited opportunities to practice the skills they are learning in a way that students unfailingly find fun and engaging. If I had 12 of them, that many students could be engaged with the chromebooks, keeping them productively occupied while I worked with other individuals and small groups.
