"My students inspire me My students inspire me when they find they can perform everyday skills that they have not been able to do all their life, and with support they finally can. They inspire me when they show their unbridled joy, their acceptance of others, and show that anyone can do what they dream if someone just believes in them and is willing to help them to achieve that dream. They are my heroes.."

I MOVED TO LAKE HAVASU BECAUSE

We had a weekend home here, and were nearing retirement age. We liked it so much here that we decided to look for a way to move out here early and then have this be where we retired full time. The weather, clean air, clear skies at night full of stars, and access to water sports or desert sports were all big plusses. We do not mind the heat, as long as we could have a pool.

YEARS TEACHING!

11 years

PERSONAL INTERESTS AND/OR COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

My husband and I love to do desert sports and water sports, including quading, riding water bikes and boating. I love to do gardening, and I keep trying to find what grows here, like roses, which are more native to Southern Cal! I also like to find and restore old furniture and redo woodwork. I love to repurpose items.
Community: I am involved in my church as a life group leader, and help organize and facilitate other groups. I am a leader for a group that helps support families of alcoholics and I presently serve at district level. I sponsor an after school club called the Shining Stars that include Special Needs students along with Mentors from the general education population. We take the students on field trips in the community to foster friendships and a sense of community. This club is sanctioned and supported by Special Olympics, and we do an annual fundraiser to support our local Special Olympics chapter.

I WAS INSPIRED TO BE A TEACHER BECAUSE

I worked in my children's school as an aide while they were in grammar school, before I knew what I wanted to do. I had a wonderful teacher for my children, and became involved in helping students struggling with math. It was so rewarding to help them gain new concepts, and I was told I should get my degree and teach.

Dream classroom item:
20 Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus Graphing CalculatorS

This dream is for our classroom to be able to support more opportunities to teach job skills and life skills. The students run a coffee and snack delivery business around campus. We need supplies to keep it running and grow!
